About Me.
Hi! I am Jae; you may know me, or you may not. I am currently studying for a Bachelor of Paramedicine to one day become a paramedic. I have been inside a gym every day since I was about 14, and despite the amount I complain sometimes, I wouldn't change it for the world. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! There is something so special about the connections, progress and confidence made in a gym like nowhere else. I fell into the job with a school-based traineeship. In high school, I became a CrossFit FROTHER. As soon as I turned 17 (the minimum age you have to be to become a CF coach), I signed up for it, and the rest is history.
I have so had the usual weightlifter story arch from CrossFit to weightlifting. I was a pretty strong teen for my time (my legs were still weak as shit tho). Friday night barbell club was my fave class at the gym, so I don’t know how I didn’t pick up on it sooner. In the infamous year 2020, I started uni. I couldn’t make classes anymore and signed up for an 8-week online weightlifting program. Then, three weeks into that, I went to uni on campus. I think you know what happened: cough cough. My dad and I created a weightlifting platform in one of the sheds because that killed some time and let us go to Bunnings. But it sure as hell was easier to thrash me with some heavy squats and break my collarbones with power cleans than do burpees in a cold, dark, lonely shed.
I competed in my first-ever weightlifting competition in February 2021; that same year, I became Junior National Champion and even broke some Junior National records. I took a six-month hiatus in October 2021 (thanks to the second lockdown).
I fell back in love with weightlifting and rebirthed my journey with a comeback comp in June 2022. Ever since then, I have accomplished
2022 U23 second place Nationals
2022 76kg Senior National Champion
2023 U23 National Champion
April 2023 qualified for the U23 International Team
October 2023 represented Australia in Samoa
2nd Place U23 in Oceania region
I am currently trying to qualify for the senior International team.
We will backtrack here so I can explain my passion and love for these sports. I grew up in a rural town, Lithgow. It’s past the Blue Mountains but not as far as Bathurst or Orange. I attended a primary school of 80 kids and a high school of 300. There is not a lot for us to do around here, so sport took up much of our time. I played field hockey for 12 years, represented our town many times, and strived for state level or higher but never made it. One year, I missed out on the district representative team. This led me to ask Mum if I could try this CrossFit thing my friend did so I could keep fit during summer and be better for hockey next year.
How did I end up in Sydney? Long story short, my university holidays were from October 2020 to March 2021. I had always wanted to live in Sydney for some period of my life for the experience. If I could survive moving out alone and growing up in Sydney, I could basically survive anywhere. So, I moved to train in weightlifting during my summer uni holidays with my online coach at the time.
It’s 2024, and I have built a life for myself here. I moved university online to seize this opportunity to the fullest. I have made compromises during this time because I want to live my athlete life to the fullest, as there is a time frame for that. In the last few years, I have built friends and a community. I hope to continue building through this business and have clients to carry with me when my lifestyle changes to have the best of both worlds.
Thanks for reading thus far; if you have, I would love to hear about your journey and chat about where I can help you take it.
